The truth about bikinis and some other explosive #FridayFunFacts

Hello and welcome back to the world of fun facts! Who needs a 40 minute episode of QI when you can get them right here? The answer is everybody. Everybody should have some QI in their lives. Stephen Fry is a genius.

But let's kick off with some bangers nonetheless.

Have you ever tried to figure out which is the left clog and which is the right? You can't. In fact, nobody could do that with any shoes until the 1850’s, because both left and right shoes were identical.

Whether you're one of those people who gets freaked out by frogs or not, ain't no wannabe princesses gonna be kissing this one - The “horror frog” can and will break its own bones to make little claws out of them to use as defensive weapons.

Similarly, turns out the sci-fi movies hold some truth - the Nazis developed an experimental drug called D-IX. People who tested the drug could march nonstop for 88.5 kilometers!

While they were doing that, bombs were dropping on Bikini - a ring of reefs in the Marshall Islands (whose name means 'Coconut Place'). It was an atomic bomb testing site in 1946, and a little while later, the two-piece swimsuit took the same name because of its "explosive" effect.

This week started off with Blue Monday, "officially" the saddest day of the year, what with work restarting and there being miserably weather for half of the world. It's slightly less than official, however, as it was invented by a travel company in 2005 to sell more summer holidays and their expert, the man who invented the ‘mathematic formula’ for the travel agency styles himself as a ‘freelance happiness guru’. If you're interested in hearing from a real happiness guru though, you should seriously check out The Happy Course, created with the Happiness Research Institute in Copenhagen.
